A massive fire has completely destroyed the clubhouse at Beaverbrook Golf Club in Surrey.

The emergency services were alerted just before 10pm last night (March 7) after the fire was discovered. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service sent eight fire engines and specialist crew to tackle the blaze, but little could be done to save the burning structure or its basement.

Investigations are continuing today into what could have sparked the fire which raised the historic building to the ground.

Jorge de Jesus, Beaverbrook’s Group General Manager, said: “I want to express our deepest gratitude to the Surrey Fire & Rescue Service for their professional response. The fire has significantly damaged the clubhouse, but thankfully nobody was hurt. It did not affect the hotel, the spa, the restaurant or the pro shop, so they have been able to open as normal today.”

The private golf club at Beaverbrook opened on the former Cherkley Court Estate in 2016. Its 18-hole, 7,100-yard championship golf course was co-designed by David McLay Kidd and Tom Watson.

The Beaverbrook Club is owned by Longshot Cherkley Court Ltd, whose four directors include Joel Cadbury and Ollie Vigours. The pair set up Longshot in 1994, with business interests in the leisure and property martket including nightclubs, restaurants and pubs.
