The Old Course Hotel in St Andrews has launched a month-long Caddie School for former soldiers in partnership with St Andrews Legacy, a not for profit organisation that brings wounded soldiers to play golf in Scotland as part of their healing and development.

The world’s first residential caddie school for former soldiers will be held at The Duke’s Course in St Andrews.

Throughout February, six soldiers from Canada, USA and the UK will convene at The Duke’s for the first month-long session of the caddie school. Further sessions will take place throughout 2019, with dates coming soon. Lessons will be led seven hours a day by Davy Gilchrist, former caddie master at Kingsbarns Golf Links and twice voted Caddie Master of The Year in Scotland.

David Scott, a master PGA professional, will complement Gilchrist’s lessons, demonstrating how to escape the perils of pot hole bunkers, remedy swing problems that produce wayward shots, and how to plot a strategic route around the golf course.

Helen McBride, General Manager at the Old Course Hotel, commented: “We are delighted to play our part in contributing to such a fantastic cause, in what is a life changing and perhaps a life-saving experience for veterans who are struggling to find their feet after serving their country.”
