At a meeting in Paris on 12th December representatives of the British Institute of Golf Course Architects moved closer to a merger with their Continental colleagues from ESGA and AFAG. All parties pledged to form the European Institute of Golf Course Architects by 1st April 2000.

The Heads of Agreement for various parts of the merger, including the local of the headquarters at Merrist Wood and the Constitution together with other details were considered and cemented.

Howard Swan, President of the British Institute, commented, “I, together with my five Council colleagues who were in Paris with the ESGA and AFAG merger committees headed by Peter Harradine and Alain Prat, am pleased that we are all moving solidly towards a single European voice for the profession throughout Europe. It is our hope that once this is concluded we will see the individual architects from Scandinavia and Italy, who are presently represented in small Associations, together with others throughout the Continent, joining the European Institute. It is a marked step forward for all of us.”
