One of the major golf memorabilia auctions of the new millennium is to take place at St Andrew’s on July 17. The hunt is on to find items to attract four and five figure bids.

Leading auctioneers, Mullock Madeley believe it is fitting that its major golf auction should be where the great success story of golf began. Auctioneer, John Mullock, explains: “We have had some amazing finds and I know there are lots more out there.

“People just don’t appreciate that the value of memorabilia has escalated in recent years. Take the a pair of early 19th century McEwan long-nose putters, removed from a Scottish house and auctioned among a box of items, only to be discovered when their new owner wanted to get rid of surplus from the box.”

He brought them to Mullock Madeley for valuation and was stunned when they put a five figure value on them and even more delighted when the two actually realised close to £20,000, under John’s gavel. “This was more than a 20 fold increase on the new owners’ investment,” added John Mullock.

Auctioning via the Auction Channel and Sky Sports reaped great rewards earlier this year when a Doulton plate with a Heathland golfing scene realised £2,400. “This was our first live auction ever and we literally had bids from around the world – but it was a Scottish buyer who secured the plate.

Mullock Madeley is now taking entries for the premier golfing auction of the year at St Andrew’s.
